Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have become a popular alternative to Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) as the demand for domain-specific hardware acceleration has increased during the decline of Moore's Law. However, programming FPGAs, as well as consuming them in applications, remains under-documented and largely opaque for engineers that are not in the hardware field. In addition, many high-powered FPGAs are cost prohibitive for individuals and organizations who are unable to make massive investments in hardware. Kubernetes has become the de facto standard for container orchestration and serves as a common interface for deploying applications. While many users are familiar with extending Kubernetes with CRDs and operators, less are aware of the robust device plugin support. In this talk, we will explore how any Kubernetes user can make use of consumer-grade FPGAs (
